Beauty can't be captured, and yet it is capturing us. Beauty has no gender, no ethnos, no language, no age, no material substance. And still it knows them all. Beauty is conceptual, a construct and like each construct it is covertible and manifold. Beauty is desire and transience, denomination and cult.

We elevated beauty to be the dictum of the pleasant and the well-formed, the permit to an allegedly better world. We domesticated it, strapped on a muzzle and keep on teaching it new stunts. But we are taking part in a sadomasochistic game since it remains equivocal, who is holding the leash.

 

Now, what happens when beauty awakes from its dozing status of the compliant aesthetical? When this object, which is bowing to our judgement and definition, suddenly changes position. When the slumbering beast rises, hungry and martial. Are we then – obsessively chasing and craving beauty – going to be consumed by its unsuspected brutality?
